The Danger of a single story
One person can tell you a story as the way that he/she understood it, and we know that people does not understand the things equal to another person. This mean that when you believe something that happen to many people, and you have options to know what is the reality, you only focus in one part of the whole story and maybe you are not conscious about those other parts.
Last class we have seen a video from Chimamanda Adichie, in which she talks about the danger of a single story. She start to talk about her childhood and her life, in which she discovered and prove the danger of a single story. Is necessary to be at one specific place to understand what she wants to communicate when she saying "The danger of a single story"?, No, You can see around you and one person would have these type of thinking.
In fact, i agree and what Chimamanda had said is true. We think that most of the times, that reality are exactly the same as other story that one person had told you, but obviously it is different. For example if we think on cuba, we have a image from all the people restricted from their rights or if we think in Mexico, many people would tell you that all the mexicans are inmigrants, drug traffickers or mariachis, and both places are not like people think. Consequently we have this thought because we only know the truth that TV show us, and that is why we have only one version, about one place, society, culture, person, community, country, etc.
in the same way, i can see that is not good to know one single story, likewise i can not said that if you do not know all the stories or concepts about one specific country, you will be a bad person. But, to conclude, the basic reason about I think it is not good, is because you can remain all your life in a very closed mind, and as a consequence you would not be open to other realities.
